Black Watch - The Museum of The Black Watch

Mention ‘The Black Watch’ almost anywhere you go across the globe and you’ll almost certainly elicit fond recognition because The Black Watch is surely one of the British Army’s, if not the world’s, most famous fighting units. Mere mention of the name is enough to conjure up visions of bravery, valour, true Scottish grit and determination. It’s perhaps not surprising, since there can hardly be a corner of the globe in which The Black Watch has not served with distinction.
The Black Watch Museum is housed in the dramatic and historic Balhousie Castle. The Castle is set in its own beautiful gardens and grounds. It is ideally situated close to the centre of Perth, beside the pleasant parkland walks of the North Inch on the banks of The River Tay.
A visit to this ancestral home of The Black Watch brings this glorious Regiment’s past vibrantly to life. The Museum is laid out chronologically through ten rooms within the Castle. These display an amazing variety of artefacts illustrating the history of the Regiment as well as a fine collection of paintings and photography. Supplemented by a number of audiovisual installations the overall experience is highly evocative and brings to life the experience of serving in the Black Watch from Fontenoy to Fallujah and beyond.
Children of all ages are welcome at the Museum, and family activities are available.
